  • Always bring a backup (just in case!)

⏱ Routine Time Limits:

  • Solo: 2 minutes
  • Duet/Trio: 3 minutes
  • Group: 5 minutes

🚫 Important Rules:

  • No fire, smoke, glitter cannons, or wheeled props
  • Max 3 solos per dancer
  • Chaperones must be DBS checked/licensed where required
  • Dancers must follow venue rules and behave respectfully at all times

Dance Genre breakdown

Street /Commercial – Commercial style is best known for its fierce attitude and sharp, striking style. Drawing together elements of both studio and street dance styles, the commercial combines hip hop, jazz, vogue, and waacking to encourage energy and precision in technique with a dynamic emphasis on performance style. Street style is an umbrella term and includes breakdancing, popping, locking, house dance, whacking, voguing, and hip hop.

Lyrical and Contemporary -Lyrical dance is a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics, and modern dance. The style combines ballet technique with the freedom and musicality of jazz and contemporary, it is often but not always performed to Lyrics and should be emotive of them. Contemporary dance combines The strong and controlled works of Ballet with modern focusing on Contract-release, floorwork, rise and fall, unpredictable rhythm changes and direction should all be used in a contemporary piece.

Classical – Classical includes, Neo and Repoitor Ballet, National, and Greek, may all enter in this category – only students in Teen and above competitive sections are permitted to dance on point.

Jazz – will include all jazz styles, including Modern dance- it should focus on a good technical understanding and musicality

Open Caberet – Open will include everything not mentioned above, Tap, Acro, Musical theatre, or other styles, This will give the dancers a good chance to compete against other performers, in the open section the 10 marks for presentation will be based on the trueness to the genre

Juding Critiria – The total score for each dancer will be out of 100 points from each judge, giving the dancer a maximum total score of 300 points. Each judge will allocate their 100 points as follows:

25 Marks for technique – This is for the dancers’ overall technique in that genre.

25 Marks for Musicality – How the dancer moves to and through the music

25 Marks for performance – How the dancer engages the audience

25 Marks for Choreography – How the choreography is executed and how it fits the concept along with appropriateness for the dancer on stage
